The suspension bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in 1916 and was the state's longest bridge without supports in the Colorado River it crossed.

Calling all Club Members!!

Minutes of the June 10, 2008 Business Meeting

Of the

BMW Riders of Western Colorado

President Daren Roybal was out of town, so the meeting was called to order at 6 PM by Vice Pres. Milan Hasse called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.  There were 12 members present.  The meeting was held at Robert Caruthers’s new Barvarian Motorcycle Workshop 2486 Commerce Blvd Unit C.

Elizabeth Waite presented Robert with a “Shop Warming” gift of an elegant white shop coat embroidered with “Bavarian Motorcycle Workshop” on the left breast, and German for “Head man in Charge” (or something to that effect) on the right.  Also included was a set of white gloves for inspection of customer bikes at completion of service work.  Robert suggested that customers would have to bring their bikes to him in much cleaner condition than he usually gets them if white glove treatment is to be given.

Monte Potter Treasurer presented a Treasurer’s report; the club has $1,577.82 in the Bank with no outstanding bills.  Transactions during May included checks written for Rally and Western States Bonanza event, and payment in advance for Rally entertainment.  A deposit for remaining Paypal registrations for 2007 Rally was made.   Jeff Smith is out riding, so there was no Secretary’s report.

George and Brad reported that to date there have only been two registrations for the Western States Bonanza.  A late start on publicity probably hurt.  It was decided to cancel the event for this year.  The check for insurance was not sent in, and George will refund registration fees.  Club members interested can get bonus lists from George if they wish to ride for fun.   George and Brad will get information out earlier next year.  Brad spoke about his recent participation in the “Two Bits” rally at June 6, at Frisco CO.  Sounded like a good time, in spite of some “education” on technicalities at post ride check in that cost him several places in the standings.  Sam Kloberdanz reported on the progress at the BMW dealership at Grand Junction Harley Davidson.  Ten new bikes are on hand, and opening is at least two weeks out.  They are still struggling to get more bikes allocated by BMW.  The showroom is coming along well, and very roomy.  BMW’s will share space with Buell bikes, and perhaps the rental counter.  Due to building layout, and alarm system issues, Scott will not be able to offer Grand Junction Harley/BMW as a meeting location for evening meetings.  Sam conveyed Scott’s offer to have meetings on Saturday mornings, but that was not well received by the club.  Robert Caruthers offered the club continued use of his shop space for Tuesday evening meetings for the time being.  His offer was gratefully accepted.  Scott plans to offer monthly 10% (one purchase) coupons for those attending BMW club meetings, in hopes of encouraging meeting attendance.  Sam did not know if Scott planned to follow Arnie’s practice of buying club membership for BMW MC buyers.  Robert made a motion that the club offer free memberships for the balance of the year for those purchasing BMW’s.  His thought was that we could get new riders to check us out at no out of pocket cost to us.  Club members agreed that this could be a good way to encourage new members.  The motion was seconded and passed.

Rally:

Club decided to not offer paypal for registration this year.  Sam will remove it from registration area of club website.  Robert has been in touch with Steve, and should have the Rally equipment out of Steve’s basement within the month.  Monte and Milan offered dry storage space.  Contract is signed for Saturday entertainment.  Terry is dickering with two BBQ vendors.  A delegation of club members will be visiting Hotchkiss this month to meet with Lions club on breakfast planning, and to bring other interested parties up to speed on our progress and plans.  Oren was not able to attend, so there was no update on door prize solicitations.

The meeting was adjourned to Johnny Carino’s  at 7 or so.

Respectfully Submitted, Monte Potter (who now has an even greater appreciation for the efforts of our esteemed Secretary, Jeff Smith)
